Responsibilities

  • Safety:
    • Identify unsafe conditions and eliminate safety hazards.
    • Investigate incidents, determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and document findings in incident reports for review by the Director of Operations.
    • Ensure all team members are trained and working safely.
    • Continuously monitor for unsafe acts, maintenance concerns, and slip/trip/fall hazards.
    • Regularly coach and encourage employees to comply with safety rules and practices.
  • Staffing & Training:
    • Identify staffing needs and collaborate with the Director of Operations and Human Resources to prioritize and fill open positions.
    • Participate in screening and hiring of candidates.
    • Develop and track new operator training programs and a tiered career growth path.
    • Train and cross-train operators to meet production schedules.
    • Serve on committees addressing strategic issues such as scrap reduction, material usage, and safety.
    • Measure operator efficiency, evaluate progress, and provide coaching using documented processes.
    • Track attendance, recognize quality performance, and coach employees for success.
    • Consult with HR on employee relations, labor relations, benefits, and other HR concerns.
  • Operations:
    • Oversee workstation schedules, communicate with planning for improvements or changes, and address challenges.
    • Maintain production levels, ensuring safety, line speeds, product quality, and work order quantities.
    • Establish and communicate KPIs on the production floor to promote productivity, throughput, and on-time delivery (OTD) targets.
    • Minimize downtime through efficient set-ups, material availability, and staging.
    • Reduce downtime due to maintenance by scheduling preventive maintenance.
  • Scrap Management:
    • Ensure scrap is reported by work center.
    • Implement corrective actions to reduce scrap by analyzing contributing factors.
    • Collaborate with operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel to resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Productivity & Lean:
    • Promote and support the Marmon Utility Lean program by engaging operators in lean activities, training, and suggestions.
    • Develop methods to improve material staging efficiency and eliminate time spent searching for materials.
    • Implement visual standards for 5S and work with leads and teams to ensure adherence.
    • Monitor daily team accountability to visual standards and "Good to Go" practices.
    • Lead teams in conducting periodic 5S audits and transition ownership to team leads.
  • Work Center Organization:
    • Organize work centers for maximum efficiency.
    • Provide necessary tools and resources to achieve work center goals.
    • Maintain good housekeeping disciplines.
    • Reduce transportation and waste of materials within and between departments.

These are the general duties required for the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to meet evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment, with supervisory experience.
  • Direct wire and cable experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and process aptitude, with working knowledge of wire/cable machinery.
  • 2–4 year degree in engineering or manufacturing technology preferred; equivalent proven work experience will be considered.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills, organizational ability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and develop collaborative relationships within supervised areas.
  • Preferred: Lean Sigma training, maintenance knowledge, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Extensive walking, lifting, and carrying of materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, drive, walk, and climb for extended periods.
  • Capability to operate test equipment, machinery, power tools, and work at heights using ladders and scaffolding.
