Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Promotes safety by leading by example, participating in safety engagement, and encouraging the team to work safe each day and to follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Cultivate a culture focused on continuous improvement in safety performance
  • Lead the team by personal example with a positive attitude, setting the standards for the team
  • Contributes to good employee relations by assisting in selecting, training, and developing competent employees and maintaining the morale of the employees in the assigned department.
  • Maintain 5S & Housekeeping throughout the production floor
  • Monitor employee completion of required documentation and document training/performance/attendance issues and needs and provide to the Department Manager.
  • Eliminate waste and downtime
  • Support lean manufacturing activities
  • Resolve process and equipment problems on shift
  • Responsible for overall employee relations on shift and conducting discipline meetings, interviews, performance appraisals and making recommendations regarding employee compensation
  • Oversee training for the shift, based on the training plan
  • Suggest and/or implement improvements for safety and to eliminate waste in the operation
  • Manage personnel while keeping within Union Contract provisions, attendance policy, work rules, safety policies, ISO systems and customer requirements
  • Complete required Human Resources paperwork (Time Off Forms, Time and Attendance approvals) in a timely manner
  • All other tasks as assigned by manager

    Education/Experience

    • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred
    • 3-5 years' related experience as a supervisor in a labor union manufacturing environment or equivalent work experience
    • Leadership, problem solving, team building
    • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to instruct employees one on one and in a group setting
    • Understanding of labor contract management
    • Computer literate; MS Office required
    • Extensive knowledge of safe work practices, standard operating procedures, and conditions
    • Knowledge of plastics manufacturing/production, silicone coating, slitting, and printing preferred

    Qualifications
