Responsible for the overall supervision of shift production in accordance with company policies and procedures. Ensures smooth production operation during the shift, meeting safety, quality, and production goals. Provides leadership through conducting new hire orientation, completion of employee job certification and training, problem solving and mentoring of all employees in the department. Will work with manufacturing improvement projects and have budget accountability in areas of control.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees in accordance with plant policies and procedures through delegating daily assignments, inspecting progress of workers’ assignments, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Direct and control work loads to ensure smooth operation and flow, on-time delivery to next operation and cost control to fill customer orders as required.
  • Provide primary leadership in training and coaching employees in the department, providing new hire instruction and training, department certifications, instruction in areas of work methods, company policy, procedures and related process topics.
  • Model and enforce company safety practices, oversee orientation of safety and emergency evacuation with employees and report possible safety hazards or problems to Department Manager.
  • Solve routine and complex problems relating to safety, quality, material, equipment and resources.
  • Responsible for conducting timely employee performance reviews, progressive discipline, shift scheduling, work assignments, vacation scheduling, overtime assignments, back-up and shift rotation.
  • Manage personnel related matters, coordinating with management and Human Resources where needed. Maintain employee files and related documentation.
  • Ensure employees perform inspection of their work in accordance with quality control standards and order requirements, before pass-off and that appropriate documentation is completed accurately.
  • Develop and maintain an effective department through the selection, training, compensation, motivation, termination and review of department employees.
  • Direct and supervise all department employees to ensure that efficiency goals are established and met; review & discuss employee efficiencies as needed.
  • Prepare/deliver department reports on efficiencies, productivity and variances utilizing company software tracking and production systems.
  • Over communicate with department and plant management concerning safety, quality and on-time delivery.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work area; follow strict protocol and 6-S initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred
    Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery acquired through 2-5 years of manufacturing experience
    Supervisory experience
    Microsoft Office computer skills minimum
