About the role

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of CNC Mills, Lathes and Assembly in the facility. The role involves communicating performance expectations to hourly Union employees, monitoring production demands, supervising machine and assembly productivity and quality, and managing personnel daily. The Production Supervisor reports to the Assembly Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor production progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to maintain efficiency.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on machined and assembled parts to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machine issues.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assign duties.
  • Interface with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Verify machined parts and assemblies conform to specifications as required.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Eliminate waste and develop cost reductions through tooling modifications, planned maintenance, etc.
  • Suggest changes and work with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Health, Environmental and Safety to improve working conditions, productivity, efficiency, quality, and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department or work crew.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensure hourly workforce is flexible and properly trained.
  • Coordinate flow of work within and between departments of the manufacturing plant to drive on-time delivery to customers.
  • Verify Production Order packets are correct, and drawings are included.
  • Respond to Customer Service on lead time requests, expedite requests, and direct shipping requests.
  • Resolve Production Order variances and cost of goods issue (COGI) errors.
  • Draft new Work Instructions, as applicable.
  • Effectively collaborate with difficult personalities to overcome obstacles and implement change.
  • Communicate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, etc. as needed to resolve problems on specific Production Orders and address bigger picture issues on output and delivery.
  • Actively participate in Production Control meetings and communicate within the department to share pertinent information and set goals.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the Union to align business needs and requirements.
  • Promote positive employee relations and interdepartmental communication and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years or more supervision experience.
  • Proficient in CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code, M-code) to create and edit CNC programs; Siemens and Fanuc controller knowledge is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of CNC machining processes, including milling and turning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office, email, and other PC application skills; Power BI is a plus.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; focuses on identifying root causes to create solutions; reconciles conflicting and/or incomplete information to develop solutions.
  • ERP/MRP experience required; SAP experience is a plus.
  • Lean experience preferred.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001:2015 QMS.
  • Ability to analyze current processes and proactively make improvements on a day-to-day basis in addition to collaborating on larger changes within the plant.
  • Demonstrated examples working with multiple people, teams, and departments to determine and implement process improvements.
