About the role
The Production Planner is responsible for managing production schedules and coordinating material and resource planning for the Prototype Department. This role requires balancing multiple short-run, fast-turnaround projects while working closely with engineering, procurement, production, and quality teams to meet customer expectations and internal deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed production schedules for prototype builds, ensuring on-time delivery in alignment with customer requirements and engineering timelines.
- Cook up and track daily production activities to meet build schedules and customer delivery timelines.
- Partner with program management, purchasing, engineering, and quality to ensure timely availability of components, completion of WIP and control of supporting documentation.
- Create and maintain production travelers, work orders, and job packets for builds.
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) on the production floor and provide status updates to internal stakeholders, including program management and engineering.
- Communicate build priorities and job changes directly to production and leadership.
- Ensure ERP/MRP systems are updated accurately with production status, job completions, material usage, and inventory adjustments.
- Support implementation and tracking of engineering change orders (ECOs), ensuring all affected documentation is properly updated and distributed.
- Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to ensure compliance with customer requirements and applicable standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IPC-A-610).
- Aid in tracking production metrics, including on-time delivery (OTD), yield, rework, and throughput.
- Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in employee's work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a production support, coordination, or scheduling role within an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems for production tracking and inventory management.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively across departments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Qualifications
- Familiarity with electronics manufacturing processes such as Surface Mount Technology, through-hole assembly, testing, and final system integration.
- Ability to work in a high-mix, low-volume, fast-turn environment typical of prototype manufacturing.
