About the role
This opportunity provides the chance to work with a small, close-knit team and make an impact with a variety of responsibilities. Northland Choice operates out of three locations including Waite Park, Long Prairie, and Redwood Falls, MN. We take fresh poultry from USDA-inspected facilities and convert it into frozen and fresh-chilled protein-based pet food ingredients.
Responsibilities
- Operate production equipment to transform raw materials into a quality frozen pet food ingredient
- Utilize overhead cranes to palletize frozen ingredient blocks and store them in freezer
- Continuously inspect raw and finished materials using FOSS machines, and visual and olfactory senses to ensure product quality
- Operate skid-steers or forklifts to move large materials and equipment
- Accurately record data and complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner; determine and report inconsistencies
- Clean, foam, use pressure hoses, and sanitize work area, equipment, tools, and totes
- Squeegee excess water from the production floor and shovel waste materials into garbage
- Perform minor preventative maintenance duties including switching out hydraulic lines, grinder blades, etc.; report major repair needs to maintenance and/or Complex Manager
- Learn and follow all standard operating procedures for processing, sanitation, safety, and quality
- Follow all company safety policies, practices, procedures, and improvement initiatives
- Comply with all regulatory compliance requirements including environmental and food safety
- Report any concerns, accidents, downtime, or cost-saving measures to Complex Manager, as needed
- Maintain positive relationships with others and assist other production or maintenance personnel, as necessary
- Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean work environment, as needed
- Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance
Qualifications
- Proficient in basic math skills; accurately and legibly record information
- Experience in food/feed production, a plus
- Preventative maintenance and repair skills, desired
- Accurately read and understand signs, labels, warnings, directions, and operator manuals
- Ability to maintain composed and organized in a fast-paced environment
- Work in a facility that processes poultry; facility may also process pork, if necessary
- Willingness and ability to work extra hours as needed during the week or weekend
- Must be 18 years of age or older for insurance purposes
Physical Requirements
- Consistently lift up to 50 pounds from waist level to/from floor
- Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds
- Push and/or pull heavy objects
- Bend at the waist and/or knees
- Stand up to 100% of the workday
- Ability to work safely in wet/slippery conditions and hot/cold environments
