Responsibilities
- Safely operate equipment, including grinders and tumblers.
- Set up equipment such as grinders and bone elimination systems.
- Open raw materials and perform visual inspections for foreign material.
- Grind raw material to specified weight and monitor fat percentage, adjusting as needed.
- Identify visual defects and make corrections; distinguish between colors.
- Assemble and disassemble grinders.
- Maintain production flow and monitor product quality.
- Work in areas of varying temperatures and relieve other associates as necessary.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure regular attendance.
- Promote, adhere to, and be responsible for Food Safety and Quality.
- Follow daily setup and shutdown procedures, maintain accurate records, and contribute to team efforts.
- Perform all duties in compliance with applicable laws, company policies, and safety rules (including GMPs and JSA guidelines).
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including formula sheets and labels.
- Use pallet jacks and understand the flow of production for overall efficiency.
- Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Requirements
- Ability to work in a cold, damp environment.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Dependable attendance is essential; ability to work any shift, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Basic math skills and ability to read and understand directions, labels, and documents (e.g., box markings, schedules, safety rules, GMPs).
- Ability to walk up and down flights of stairs.
- Knowledge of process and equipment, including grinder assembly and functions.
- Ability to work in a high-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking, and using a computer.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone and in person.
- Clear and concise speaking ability for providing information and instructions.
- Visual acuity to read computer screens, forms, and printed materials.
- Flexibility and body movement for bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and moving objects/equipment.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop.
- Occasionally required to sit, taste/smell, and climb; must be able to reach all levels in the bay.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to meet physical demands with assistive or adaptive devices or reasonable accommodations.
Work Environment
- Work is indoors with prolonged standing and subject to schedule changes/variable work hours.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and occasionally high/precarious places, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration.
- Noise level is usually loud; hearing protection is required in production areas at all times.
