Production Operator (Manufacturing) (Chemicals) (Day Shift)

About the Role

This position is responsible for working in at least one production area to ensure customer requirements are met while following all safety procedures and assisting fellow co-workers as needed. The role operates with moderate supervision, receiving direction primarily from the Shift Leader or Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean, safe work areas and minimize material spillage.
• Strive to achieve all production and quality goals.
• Assist maintenance when directed by Shift Leader.
• Communicate with employees, especially those from preceding/following shifts, to ensure clarity on product status, equipment, and quality.
• Provide representative samples to Quality Control in a timely manner and respond to QC inquiries promptly.
• Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports.
• Follow all company policies, practices, and procedures.
• Evaluate equipment for proper working conditions and complete maintenance orders as needed.
• Immediately alert Shift Leader to any problems (equipment, product, or personnel issues).
• Empty process dust collectors, dust collectors, and central vacuum systems to ensure compliance with environmental permits.
• Clean equipment between products to prevent cross-contamination.

Bowl Loading / Mixing Area

• Coordinate work schedules with systems, materials, and manufacturing services to ensure timely delivery of information and materials.
• Load pre-weighed raw materials into mixing bowls.
• Mix batches per instructions.
• Maintain material feed to keep the extruder running.

Bonding/Blending Area

• Load pre-weighed base material into a mixer per batch ticket instructions.
• Add additional raw materials to the mixer per batch ticket instructions.
• Preset conditions for each batch per batch ticket or Shift Leader’s instructions.
• Monitor and adjust the process to meet customer specifications.
• Ensure accurate fill of finished goods.
• Transfer raw materials in the computer system and maintain accurate inventory.
• Follow all aluminum safe handling procedures.

Extrusion Area

• Set conditions for each batch per instructions from the batch ticket.
• Monitor and adjust the process per Shift Leader’s instructions.
• Monitor and adjust the cooling belt to ensure appropriate chip size and thickness.
• Prevent cross-contamination through efficient cleaning and proper use of dust collection equipment.
• Ensure spare screws are clean and ready for the next run.

Grinding/Packaging Area

• Set conditions for each batch per instructions from the batch ticket.
• Monitor and adjust the process per Shift Leader’s instructions, with specific attention to particle size.
• Ensure accurate filling of finished goods containers.
• Ensure product clears alpine check.
• Wrap skids of finished goods.

Requirements

• High school diploma (minimum).
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment (experience with chemicals or packaging is a plus).
• Ability to work on different shifts and overtime as needed.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen (no exceptions).
