Production Operator-Extrusion
About the role
A qualified Extruder Operator at RSCC Wire & Cable LLC will have knowledge of the extrusion line and accessory equipment, be capable of setting up and operating the extruder to insulate bare wire conductors, both stranded and solid, of various sizes. The operator must understand and perform all tasks in accordance with technical instruction sheets, posted general instructions, verbal instructions, and complete required documentation.
Responsibilities
- Monitor for and detect faulty machine operation, defective materials, and/or process problems and communicate to the supervisor.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the extrusion line/equipment, including control panel(s), payoffs, takeups/traversing systems, capstans, spark testers, wire troughs, compound feed hoppers, and wire accumulators or tensioning systems.
- Mount payoff reels, thread conductor through tensioners, wire accumulators, tensioning systems, metering capstans, head, wire troughs to takeups.
- Ensure proper selection of tips, dies, and print wheels (if required).
- Set gears, ratios, and heats to required specifications.
- Set any marker tapes, separator tapes, or adhesives as specified.
- Attend to machine during operation, making adjustments to tension, line speed, O.D., and center as necessary.
- Change payoff and takeup reels as required.
- Perform extrusion line tasks in conformance with manufacturing instruction sheets (MIT), Quality checklist, the safe work practice summary, and the process setup sheets.
- Verify conductor size, number of strands, lengths, and required insulating compounds are correct.
- Complete workcenter documentation, including OD/wall charts, compound lot records, length sheets, traveler reel tags, traceability sheets/tags, and labor reporting sheets.
Requirements
The Extruder Operator position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of 1 year of related experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of the extrusion process, including the ability to read and interpret technical instructions, is essential. Must be able to operate a variety of machines and tools, including but not limited to extruders, tensioners, and takeups.
Qualifications
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a background check. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as this is a 2nd shift (3pm-11pm, M-F) position.
Skills
Knowledge of the extrusion process, reading and interpreting technical instructions, operating machinery, and problem-solving skills are crucial. Proficiency in using computer systems and software is also beneficial.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $XX-$YY per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Schedule
This is a 2nd shift (3pm-11pm, M-F) position.
