About the Role
As a Meat Cutter you will expertly cut, trim, and manage prime and premium meat and seafood according to The Fresh Market standards. You’ll also assist with department inventory, pricing integrity, merchandising, and operational processes to ensure the best product and service for our guests while driving sales.
Responsibilities
- Handle production for key items to support Meat-Seafood, Deli-CMS, and other departments as needed
- Maintain knowledge of products and weekly ad items across the store; assist guests in finding products and completing meal solutions
- Slice, cut, and trim a variety of the department’s prime and premium meat and seafood products throughout the day while managing quality product levels per TFM standards
- Monitor temperature of cases, spillovers, and storage areas
- Enforce department practices for receiving, stocking, and unloading deliveries to ensure freshness and quality in cases, coolers, freezers, and on the sales floor
- Ensure department adherence to all safety requirements and protocols, including food safety, per TFM policies and applicable law
Schedule
This full-time position requires availability from 3 am – 11 am, with days off typically on Sunday and Wednesday each week. A $2.00/hour shift differential is paid for hours worked between 12 am – 5 am. Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays is expected to meet the needs of our stores, guests, and teams.
Requirements
- Must become TFMA-certified within 90 days of hire
- Minimum 2 years of meat-cutting experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
- Journey-level meat cutting, culinary, or grocery experience
- Experience with production-planning software
- Background in retail, restaurant, or hospitality industries
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical & Work Conditions
- Repetitive hand/arm movements, grasping, bending, reaching
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds independently
- Exposure to extreme temperatures
- Use of tools and equipment: knives, ladders, step stools, box cutters, pallet jacks, and other department tools (unless under 18)
- Long periods on feet; standing or walking without a break for up to 4 hours (or as required by law)
- Required to wear approved hat, hair net, beard guard, and personal protective equipment
