About the Role

Responsible for the leadership and management of all production areas of the facility to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are processed on-schedule, within quality standards, and meet cost objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and directing production activities, establishing production priorities for effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinate problem resolution resulting from equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Maintain accurate production records on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis of key production variables.
  • Manage staffing and training for direct reports with adequate overhead.
  • Communicate regularly with all necessary personnel to ensure consistent operation among shifts.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and development needs.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and carry out all production-related projects. Support continuous improvement.
  • Formulate and recommend operations policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and profitability.
  • Ensure use and inventories of processed chemicals and other supplies are monitored.
  • Provide a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work and achieving quality standards.
  • Enforce all safety, health, environmental, and food/feed safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee multiple direct reports within the facility.
  • Carry out and oversee interviewing, selecting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, industrial, or mechanical engineering, business administration, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience with in-depth knowledge of production processes and technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising others in a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer (preferred).

  • Effective communication with co-workers and senior-level management.
  • Proficiency with various software programs.
  • Ability to maintain good attendance habits.
  • Adherence to all relevant SOPs, company safety, quality, environmental, and HR policies.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to climb to levels of 125 feet or more, work in confined spaces, and use harnesses. Use of stairs and ladders may be required.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
  • Operate in an office and production environment.
  • Production environment may include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the production environment is usually very loud.
  • This position requires the use of a respirator.
