The Production Manager – Metal Fabrication is responsible for leading the workflow, output, and execution of the Metal Fabrication process to ensure production goals, quality standards, and delivery commitments are achieved. This role drives continuous improvement initiatives, promotes a culture focused on safety and quality, and develops team members through coaching, engagement, and performance management. The Production Manager works cross-functionally to resolve production issues, optimize resources, and provide timely updates on project and production status while ensuring operational excellence throughout the fabrication process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the entire Metal Fabrication workflow, output, and execution to align with production schedules and master build plans.
  • Monitor production performance, address bottlenecks, and escalate significant schedule or quality concerns to maintain operational objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication throughout fabrication operations by facilitating production meetings, providing schedule updates, and ensuring alignment between production teams and other departments.
  • Manage production-related projects using structured project management methodologies, including Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) principles.
  • Coordinate resources, monitor project milestones, and ensure initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by training and mentoring leaders and employees in problem-solving techniques.
  • Encourage team members to identify root causes, resolve operational challenges, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Promote a positive work environment by encouraging open communication, building trust, and actively engaging team members.
  • Drive quality performance throughout the fabrication process by implementing control points, inspections, and standardized processes.
  • Lead employee development through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and career development planning.
  • Manage employee relations issues effectively while supporting recruiting, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Champion lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies, including Standardized Work, Flow Planning, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Value Stream Design (VSD), 5S, and Work Instructions.
  • Partner with departments across the organization to coordinate schedules, resolve issues, and support shared business objectives.
  • Track key production metrics, analyze operational performance, and provide timely updates to leadership regarding production status, project progress, resource needs, and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to support departmental objectives and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business management, engineering, or project management focus, or related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, with a proven ability to guide projects or mentor individuals is required.
  • Experience with leading change improvement/5S preferred.
  • 1+ years of hands-on fire truck product knowledge from either a manufacturing or fire department perspective preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude required.

Skills

  • Language: Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, and the general public. Able to communicate with tact and diplomacy to develop relationships with internal and external contacts, provide excellent customer service, and manage conflict. Able to follow written and verbal directions and communicate new information that could affect project trajectories. Able to communicate goals effectively to a team.
  • Math: Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Computer: Able to perform intermediate PC functions in Microsoft Office including the use of spreadsheet tables and formulas.
  • Abilities:
    • Able to work professionally with all levels of the Rosenbauer organization, customers, and vendors.
    • Able to deal with problems involving a variety of variables in non-standard situations.
    • Able to proficiently deal with internal affairs concerning employee issues and conflicts.
    • Demonstrated ability to be organized, flexible, and easily adaptive to evolving and fast-paced working conditions.
    • Able to collaborate and work cross-functionally with multiple departments and functional disciplines to drive common solutions and best practices.
    • Able to lead and supervise a team effectively.
    • Able to maintain detailed and accurate records.
    • Able to identify quality issues, recognize changes within the production process, and adjust as needed.
    • Able to prioritize work and multitask while adhering to deadlines.
    • Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
    • Able to understand and follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all.
