About the role
The Production Manager will oversee the manufacturing operations in a food processing environment, responsible for production yield, product quality, food safety, staffing, labor efficiency, resource efficiency, employee safety, and facility management.
Responsibilities
- Forecast and develop weekly production schedules
- Schedule personnel to staff each production shift adequately and efficiently, considering line rotations, lunch and break periods, paid time off, and mandated leaves of absences
- Provide adequate direction to supervisors, leads, and line employees to operate in an efficient, safe, and food safety compliant production shift
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and other food safety guidelines
- Provide accurate inventories, production utilizations, and yields to ensure the most cost-effective procurement of supplies and ingredients
- Ensure that employees work safely and that any unsafe work conditions are corrected immediately to prevent workplace injuries
- Ensure product quality and consistency, working with the Quality Assurance Manager and the USDA/FSIS inspector to develop and support quality systems
- Meet or exceed all production yield, through-put, and labor efficiency goals and objectives
- Record and track all production downtime and implement corrective action as required
- Provide oversight of plant and production sanitation programs, facility operations, and daily and nightly shipping operations
- Implement and continue new practices, processes, and procedures, advancing ideas for process improvement and soliciting and supporting process improvements suggested by others
- Ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, and operating permits
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in production management or related field preferred
- At least 5 years of experience in a food processing environment
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- HACCP experience
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The job requires sitting, using a keyboard, and fine manipulation with hands and fingers, with the ability to lift up to 10 pounds. The work environment is clean and temperature-controlled, with a low noise level.
