Production Manager

About the Role

This position manages the daily operations of a 24-hour plant, ensuring efficient, safe, and profitable production of finished goods. Responsibilities include coordinating with scheduling, maintenance, shipping, and quality departments, implementing HACCP and quality systems, and managing the ERP/M3 system for production. The role requires dynamic leadership to achieve operational excellence, meet budgetary standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and maintain positive employee relations.

Responsibilities

• Effectively utilize resources (raw materials, labor, time, energy, utilities) in packaging finished goods and semi-products.
• Develop and implement action plans for continuous improvement.
• Manage operating expenses, including supplies and production labor.
• Establish productivity and performance goals, including Corporate KPIs.
• Train, coach, and develop supervisors and hourly employees.
• Develop and maintain operating procedures.
• Troubleshoot operational problems and monitor production yields.
• Be available for consultation on plant issues 24/7.
• Review and recommend process flow improvements.
• Control department spending for overtime and supplies.
• Ensure minimum production efficiencies and create improvement plans.
• Create work schedules for operators and conduct regular crew meetings.
• Coordinate work activities on scheduled down days for equipment maintenance.
• Evaluate subordinates annually and foster a teamwork atmosphere.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Operations, or Engineering.
• Experience: At least 5 years in Plant and Production Supervisory roles; union environment experience a plus; Food Industry experience preferred.
• Skills: Proficient in MS Office Suite, AS 400, PLC, Warehouse Management Systems, Inventory Management Systems, and Plant Automation Systems. Ability to interface with mainframe, accounting, MRP, and order processing systems.
