Production Helper

About the Role

The Production Helper assists workers in the fabrication of structural or metal products by performing various support duties and tasks in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain performance standards and meet production and quality expectations
• Lift, position, and remove workpieces from machines to assist in fitting and welding
• Load, stack, and transport stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck
• Clean and scrape metal being prepared for fabricating, welding, painting, or shipping
• Clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment
• Pick up scraps from work areas and load/unload trucks
• Grind burrs from holes and sharp corners from material
• Assist fellow employees as directed and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3–6 months of experience in a manufacturing plant or warehouse
• Experience in the steel industry and/or galvanizing is a plus
• Ability to become forklift and overhead crane certified (may not operate until certified)
• Knowledge of electric and pneumatic hand tools
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division in all units of measure)
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Effective communication in English (reading and writing)
• Good attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work required overtime and follow Leadsman’s directions

Skills

• Experience with die grinders, manual hand grinders, magnetic drills, hand power impact drills, or tap wrenches (preferred)

Schedule

• Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM (with Saturday as needed)
• 10-hour or 8-hour shifts
• 40–55 hours per week

Working Conditions

• Maximum shop exposure with extreme temperatures
• Long hours of standing, squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting
• Exposure to moving equipment, temperature/humidity changes, dust, fumes, or gases
• No travel required
