About the role
You will use established procedures to collect and interpret geological observations and samples for the purpose of guiding the mining effort to keep production going and profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska.
Responsibilities
- Organize, schedule, and prioritize work activities to ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives.
- Work underground, collecting observations and samples, lining out headings, and communicate with operations and engineering groups.
- Provide geologic perspectives in level plan design meetings to optimize grade, extraction rate, and safety.
Requirements
- Knowledge of established procedures for collecting and interpreting geological observations and samples.
- Experience working independently and identifying, resolving problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to work in remote locations and perform fieldwork including mapping and sample collection.
- Proficiency in using equipment and following safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Education in geology or related field.
- MSHA training upon hire.
- Department-level training on safety and operations.
Skills
- Structural understanding of stope scales (or smaller).
- Fieldwork skills including mapping and sample collection.
- Effective communication with operations and engineering groups.
- Geologic information presentation in map meetings and level plan engineering meetings.

Pay

Schedule
- 8 days on, 6 days off (or 4 days on, 3 days off) depending on the schedule.
