Production General Foreman - Stock Preparation

About the Role

The Production General Foreman provides effective direction and supervision of Stock Preparation Areas to meet throughput expectations from the Paper Machine. Areas of responsibility include Filler Plant and Liner Plant staff and operations, RPM support, environmental compliance, capital planning, risk mitigation (including fire protection), purchasing/procurement, and area infrastructure and utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct Filler Plant and Liner Plant staff and operations, including training, development, and optimization.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment and adherence to RPM Program requirements and inspections.
  • Support plant capital planning and risk mitigation, including fire protection.
  • Evaluate process systems for optimization opportunities using DCS and Ignition systems.
  • Develop and maintain operator training materials, updating them annually to reflect process changes.
  • Coordinate safety model programs and ensure compliance with plant safety programs, OSHA, Factory Mutual, and environmental regulations.
  • Investigate and report safety incidents in CORE in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions identified through reliability investigations to maintain asset health.
  • Manage purchasing/procurement and maintain accurate records for equipment maintenance, process efficiency, permits, and material requisitions.
  • Support SCADA and DCS operations during process upsets or coverage requirements.
  • Foster high morale within the department to enhance productivity and employee retention.
  • Implement manufacturing initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma, 5S, Visual Work Management, and Operator Basic Care.
  • Recommend and implement technological advancements to enhance mill operations.
  • Coordinate vendor services and capital projects under the direction of the Production Manager.
  • Ensure areas of supervision are staffed with properly trained personnel, including involvement in technician training.
  • Act as a Model Program Administrator, conducting inspections and training in accordance with state regulations and company safety programs.
  • Make recommendations on discipline, performance assessments, terminations, layoffs, promotions, and transfers.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform the job safely and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Experience with operator/supervisor development and training, including development of training materials.
  • Proficiency in utilizing DCS and Ignition systems for process optimization.
  • Ability to develop relationships with manufacturing, engineering, tech services, research, sales, and customers to determine product specifications.
  • Highly developed technical skills to implement advancements in automation and technology.
  • Experience with SCADA and DCS operations to support process upsets or coverage requirements.
  • Familiarity with reading and following P&IDs, electrical one-lines, mass and energy balances.
  • Experience with papermill equipment reliability, including inspections, pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, flowmeters, and switches.
  • Competencies in communication, decision-making, problem-solving, developing others, leadership, conflict management, and resource management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of prior papermill operations experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • SCADA (DCS, Ignition, etc.) experience.
  • Higher-level computer skills using Foxboro, ABB, Ignition, Rockwell, etc.
  • Experience with USG Safety Model Program, OSHA, FM Global, and environmental compliance preferred.
