About the role

The Production Float role at Organic Valley's Chaseburg Creamery is responsible for assisting in all production areas, including HTST, Intake, Buttermaking, butter packaging, and sanitation. This role is also on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests for bulk milk to ensure compliance with CROPP specifications.
  • Receive and/or load raw and pasteurized milk, including truck-to-truck transfers.
  • Operate HTST pasteurizers and perform cream culturing as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize HTST pasteurizers, storage tanks/silos, butter churn, and other equipment.
  • Email daily shift reports and fluid inventory.
  • Transfer cream from storage tanks to churn and churn butter to specified grades.
  • Operate and hand-pack cases, assist with palletizing, and perform daily sanitation duties.
  • Monitor churn for malfunctions and report issues to supervisors.
  • Operate packaging equipment and perform light maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with general plant cleaning and property maintenance.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain state permits to operate HTST pasteurizers.
  • Knowledge of buttermaking and ability to obtain a buttermakers license.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills and understanding of machine operations.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong work ethic and history of good attendance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in dairy processing or related field preferred.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Skills

  • Ability to operate HTST pasteurizers and perform CIP systems.
  • Knowledge of buttermaking processes and ability to obtain a buttermakers license.
  • Good interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Basic math and reading comprehension skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
