About the role

As the Production Control Sr. Systems Engineer, you are responsible for the design, configuration, and continuous improvement of Tesla’s Material Flow System (MFS) and related production-control applications so that systematic material flow matches the physical processes defined by Production Control Process Engineering and Operations. Through true cross-departmental collaboration, our systems engineers configure end-to-end part flows—from receiving and warehousing through lineside delivery, sequencing, kitting, and shipping—while sustaining reliability, data integrity, and decision-grade visibility for the factory.

Through a continuous feedback loop with Production Control Operations, Process Engineers, and factory software teams, we constantly evaluate and improve system performance by eliminating manual workarounds, preventing recurrence of disruptions, and automating material flow and inventory tracking. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Production Control Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Process Engineering, Logistics, Planning, Factory Software, and Operations to design, configure, and improve all aspects of material flow in MFS and TMS
  • Configure and maintain Tesla’s MFS to map physical production part flows—including receiving, putaway, storage, conveyance, sequencing, kitting, Just-In-Sequence, Just-In-Time, lineside delivery, and shipping—ensuring seamless integration with shop-floor operations
  • Support PFEP and engineering-change logistics by maintaining accurate system data, configuration logic, and audit-ready workflows aligned with Process Engineering standards
  • Implement and enhance TMS/MFS JIT/JIS modules to streamline supplier operations, improve supply-chain performance, and meet launch and rate requirements
  • Perform root cause analysis on software and system disruptions affecting daily operations; recommend and implement corrective actions with recurrence prevention, clear ownership, and timely communication to line leadership
  • Design, develop, test, and release new system features to automate production parts material flow and inventory tracking, including QA, production validation, monitoring, and rollback discipline
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Production Control and software development teams—prioritizing production blockers, defining acceptance criteria, and maintaining a visible backlog of systems initiatives
  • Act as the SME on systems flows; develop training programs, standard work, runbooks, and best practices so shops and engineers use systems as designed
  • Build and maintain dashboards and SQL-backed analytics using data visualization tools; analyze data from MFS, ERP/WMS, and other systems to identify bottlenecks, configuration defects, and improvement opportunities, partnering with Process Engineers on simulation inputs and validation where applicable
  • Integrate material-flow systems with warehouse, lineside, and automation equipment—including scanners, AMR/AGV interfaces, and related control systems—and drive process-improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, cost, and productivity across Production Control systems

Requirements

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Data Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of professional experience in manufacturing, with focus on production-control systems, process/systems engineering, or data engineering in a high-volume environment
  • Hands-on experience configuring and sustaining ERP and WMS systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent) and production material-flow applications in a live factory
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying, validating, and analyzing system data; experience mining, collecting, cleansing, and interpreting operational datasets
  • Experience with at least one data visualization tool (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Ziplab) to deliver decision-grade operational dashboards
  • Proven experience in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone) on systems or process disruptions
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skillsets to collectively work through complex, non-standard problems with diverse teams
  • Demonstrated project leadership on cross-functional systems initiatives, including launch readiness and sustainment accountability
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, logistics business systems, and material-flow concepts (PFEP, JIT/JIS, sequencing, warehouse operations)
  • Previous World Class Manufacturing or Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
