Production Coding Specialist I - Remote

This is a day shift, remote position.

About the role

Coders abstract data from the anesthesia record into the MD Cloud Practice Solutions platform and may also work with other charge capture platforms, including Medaxion, PC7, as well as multiple facility EMRs based on assigned location. Medical records are abstracted for CPT codes and cross-walked into the appropriate ASA code. This position requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience with complex surgical CPT and ICD-10, with one year of anesthesia coding strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review anesthesia documentation and other forms for appropriate required elements, such as attestations, signatures, and dates.
• Abstract and code surgical procedures from all sections of CPT and cross-walk surgical codes to ASA.
• Apply comprehensive understanding of applicable modifiers and ICD-10 coding guidelines.
• Abstract anesthesia times and events.
• Identify and assign care team providers.
• Review for medical direction.
• Meet team KPIs including daily production and quarterly coding audit score requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures, especially HIPAA and confidentiality.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Current CPC certification required; CANPC a plus.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in surgical coding; anesthesia coding experience a plus.
• Experience with multiple EMRs and documentation types/templates, including handwritten and electronic records.
• Basic charge capture platform experience.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Outlook.
• Ten-key proficiency.
• Strong communication skills with all levels of employees.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to complete daily assignments in a timely manner.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work independently.
• Self-motivation to initiate new projects.

Skills

• Complex surgical CPT and ICD-10 coding (2+ years minimum).
• Anesthesia coding (1+ year preferred).
• NCCI bundling and familiarity with LCD/NCD.
• CMS guidelines for coding.
• Review and determination of start/end times, care team, and medical direction.
• Ability to follow pre-established departmental playbooks and pathways.

Pay

Base pay estimate for this role is $18.17 - $29.04 hourly. The final offer will depend on skills, experience, and qualifications. This position is eligible for a quarterly bonus based on company and individual performance.
