About the role
Ahlstrom-Taylorville, part of the Filtration and Life Sciences business division, produces specialty paper primarily for engine and industrial filtration applications. We seek self-motivated, dependable individuals eager to grow in a continuous-flow manufacturing environment operating computer-controlled equipment. The role involves coordinating activities to ensure cost-efficient operations while meeting quality and continuous improvement standards, and adhering to environmental, health, and safety policies.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a safety mindset by identifying potential hazards and applying safety standards continuously.
- Participate in safety improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
- Operate production equipment and learn next-level jobs.
- Transfer materials using forklifts and cranes; load and unload material from machines.
- Complete quality inspections and participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Perform basic data entry into applicable computer systems.
- Maintain a strong understanding of DCS and PLC-operated equipment and related mechanical troubleshooting.
- Cooperate and participate in cross-training for efficiency optimization and multi-skills development.
- Maintain proper housekeeping for the department and associated equipment.
- Work all days of the week in a 24/7 operation.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Production or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience driving a sit-down forklift preferred.
- Strong desire to develop knowledge and skills within the mill.
- High regard for safety and teamwork.
- Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting experience.
- Ability to work in a team environment and exercise independent judgment, self-motivation, and communication skills.
- High school education or equivalent required.
- Strong mechanical/mathematical aptitude.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Suite and other programs preferred.
- Ability to complete a post-offer drug test and background screening.
Physical Demands
- Ability to see, hear, talk, sit, stand, walk, and use fingers to manipulate controls.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk and stand on varied surfaces.
- Ability to work in hot or cold environments, indoors and outdoors, in a manufacturing production setting with exposure to moving mechanical parts.
Pay
$29.28/hour starting pay with opportunities to advance to $38.78.
