Production Associate

The University of Pennsylvania, a leading private employer in Philadelphia, is renowned for its education, research, and innovation. As a non-exempt, temporary employee, the Production Associate supports Penn Live Arts with various event, digital, and performance-based tasks.
About the Role
Reporting to Penn Live Arts' Artistic Project Manager, Production Associates assist in technical theater operations, audio-visual setups, and other back-of-house tasks. They are expected to have basic knowledge of technical theater or audio-visual practices and are flexible with scheduling, often working evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Hanging, focusing, or striking stage lighting
- Setting up stage audio or portable PA systems
- Setting up projections and/or playback equipment
- Setting up or striking stage properties such as chairs, music stands, platforms, choral risers, and acoustic shells
- Digital video camera operation or other livestream or digital video support
- Wardrobe maintenance and support
- General assistance in all back-of-house technical and shop spaces
- Programming lighting consoles (ETC Eos Family)
- Programming audio or video in QLab or Playback Pro
- Programming or operating digital audio consoles (Yamaha CL and TR series, DiGiCo, or Behringer X32)
- Livestream engineering, camera operation, video direction, or minor post-production video editing
- Stage managing or supervising venue activities
- Assisting with stage carpentry or theatrical rigging projects
Requirements
Basic working knowledge of technical theater or audio-visual practices, terms, and nomenclature. No specific educational qualifications are required, but candidates should demonstrate relevant experience or a strong aptitude for learning technical skills.
Qualifications
Production Associates must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, due to the nature of performing arts events.

Basic technical theater or audio-visual skills, flexibility, and willingness to learn new technologies and processes.

Pay
$7.25 - $22.00 hourly rate, with salary offers based on qualifications, experience, skills, and education.
Schedule
As needed, dependent on venue workloads and full-time staff availability, with as much advance notice as possible.
