Production Assistant (CDL)

About the role

The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers make a difference in people's lives. Through the collection and resale of gently used goods, we provide the financial support to assist men and women with various social and spiritual issues. The in-residence rehabilitation program focuses on basic necessities, offering a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure activities, counseling, and spiritual guidance. Each team member contributes to recycling goods that help repair broken lives.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
• Promptly report all accidents involving truck, personal injury, or property damage and complete necessary paperwork.
• Perform daily walk-around inspections of the vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to maintain equipment in good operating condition.
• Report any problems immediately to the supervisor.
• Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and remove personal items daily.
• Complete daily routing based on pick-ups assigned and make all scheduled calls, including bagging or carding on both sides and across the street of each pick-up, as instructed.
• Develop assigned routes, including bagging or carding on both sides and across the street of each pick-up, as instructed.
• Develop and maintain a professional appearance in compliance with company dress code.
• Maintain complete and accurate records, such as delivery manifests, trip logs, Green Sheets, etc.
• Strictly adhere to communication procedures and 10 codes.
• Load and unload the truck assigned and others as requested, taking proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading.
• Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store (e.g., hampers to processing area, furniture placed properly on sales floor, removal of trash, etc.).
• Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, keeping in mind that the Truck Helper is in a rehabilitation program and that good habits are taught by example as well as instruction.
• Support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing examples of professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by Supervisor).
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Administrator for Business.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid Commercial Driver’s License for assigned vehicles and an acceptable DMV record.
• To pass a driving test.
• To pass a DOT Physical, which is a requirement of the job, and failure to do so could result in immediate termination of employment.
• A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for this position.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid Commercial Driver’s License for assigned vehicles and an acceptable DMV record.
• To pass a driving test.
• To pass a DOT Physical, which is a requirement of the job, and failure to do so could result in immediate termination of employment.
• A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for this position.
• Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
• Must be able to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
• Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to use a touch screen tablet mobile device to send and receive text-based communications, take and send digital photos, and follow GPS route navigation instructions.
