Product Testing Technician

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of tests on refinery process samples and finished products per established procedures.
  • Test methods vary from simple methods such as density/gravity, color, and viscosity to more complex methods such as knock (octane) testing, automatic distillation and titration, gas chromatography, etc.
  • Is required to learn and perform approximately 180 different tests following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that comply with ASTM, CARB, EPA, or in-house testing methods.
  • Utilizes standard Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes to ensure accuracy and precision of results.
  • Validates data, performs calculations, and reports test results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills. Identifies risks and takes action to eliminate.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Job necessitates driving on a routine basis.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) or Technology (Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing) or 3 years of full analytical laboratory testing experience.
  • Must possess a Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. QCD is a 24/7 operation, and Lab Operators are required to work shift work, 12-hour shifts, typically working 14 out of 28 days per month.
  • Good computer skills and problem-solving ability.
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven track record in Safety and Reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) or Technology (Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing).
  • 10 years Laboratory testing experience.
  • Refinery/Chemical Plant Process Operations.
  • Knowledge of refinery test methods (e.g. ASTM methods for: GC, AA, IC, XRF, elemental analysis, and wet chemistry).
  • Understands Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Demonstrated ability to consult on analytical instrumentation and test methods, including method development and equipment/instrumentation purchase and repair.
  • Knowledge and understanding of refinery processes.
  • Experience with chemometric modeling and analysis.

Pay

The anticipated hourly wage can make up to USD $41.65 - 54.18. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule

  • Rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
