Product Strategy & Development Associate II
About the role
Vistra is one of the largest competitive electricity providers in the country, taking an innovative, customer-centric approach to meet customers' needs. In this role, you’ll leverage Distributed Energy Resources – EVs, home solar, whole-home batteries, and more – to create products, programs, and services that unlock new value for consumers and strengthen the grid. You’ll own concepts from whiteboard to market launch: ideation, economic modeling, vendor partnerships, and operational rollout of new products from virtual power plants to electricity commodity plans. This hands-on role mixes analysis, creative problem solving, and day-to-day execution, collaborating across marketing, technology, operations, finance, and a diverse set of vendors.
Responsibilities
- Leverage analytical and financial analysis skills to assess the commercial viability of potential offerings and recommend program designs that meet necessary financial metrics (margin, sales, ROI, etc.)
- Transform complex energy ideas into simple, easy-to-understand customer offerings
- Generate new concepts through proven ideation methodologies and opportunistic thinking
- Understand your target audience, analyze research insights and trends, identify opportunities, and ultimately propose and deliver products, programs, or partnerships
- Lead the implementation of new products through ideation, program design, and market launch, working with cross-functional stakeholders
- Manage key product verticals and support product optimization (product design, marketing, and sales tactics/strategy) to achieve sales goals for new products
- Cultivate and manage external partner relationships to define new programs and business models, negotiate commercial agreements, and define and execute the go-to-market workplan
Requirements
- 5+ years of work experience in retail-focused product development, offer/channel strategy, marketing, or a related function
- 3+ years with financial modeling or customer margin analysis (related to above)
- Experience with energy or alternative energy products (solar, battery, EVs, VPPs, Demand Response) strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Excel-based modeling required; SAS/Tableau experience beneficial
- Willingness and ability to learn new systems as required (e.g., CRM tools)
- Strong sense of self-motivation, thrives under minimal supervision, excels at solving complex problems, and enjoys working around obstacles
- Extensive communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with both internal and external customers (e.g., vendors, Marketing, Sales, IT, Legal, Operations, Finance)
- High level of curiosity, a capacity for learning, and an aptitude for problem-solving
- Able to effectively contribute to and/or lead small work groups
- Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to the above skills
