This entry level/early career professional position creates software that is sold as an integral part of Cummins’ products. People in these roles identify and understand stakeholder requirements, develop specifications, and are responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and/or release of software that controls the operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications.
Responsibilities
- Investigates product software problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution, and documents results.
- Applies and supports the improvement of product software development processes and tools, including coding, compiling, and testing. Tools include code editors, integration tools, static analysis tools, compilers, and hardware-in-the-loop test tools.
- Obtains input and collaborates with product and software development teams to deliver verified software features, components, and builds.
- Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in software requirements, architecture, design, and test that impact the quality and performance of software builds, product lines, and cross-business-unit integration.
- Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, or services, with increasing technical complexity and ambiguity as experience is gained.
- Interacts and collaborates with cross-functional teams, providing independent execution of established work processes while developing technology or product knowledge.
- Coordinates and directs work among technicians and/or temporary student employees.
- Contributes to team goals, exhibits influence within a work group, and develops proficiency in key competency areas.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field is required. A post-graduate (Master’s) degree may be required for select roles.
- Entry-level/early career professional experience.
- Preferred candidates have relevant experience from internships, co-ops, or extracurricular team activities, or as an early career professional in a technical discipline.
- Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
- Designed for external candidates within 2 years of completing their highest degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, MBA, or JD) from an accredited U.S. college/university.
- For U.S.-based roles, F-1 visa students must have approved CPT or OPT related to their degree.
Skills
- Strong background in embedded C.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, including design, development, testing, and product problem-solving.
- Experience in Python or Groovy is a plus.
Pay
Salary range: $94,308 – $122,492 per year.
