About the role

Midrex is accelerating its digital initiative focused on software-defined industrial solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled Product Owner (PO) who will be responsible for maximizing the value of Midrex’s external digital products by translating business strategy, engineering requirements, and customer needs into prioritized, deliverable capabilities. This role bridges engineering, operations, commercial teams, and software development to ensure our digital platforms deliver measurable customer and revenue impact.

The Product Owner owns the what and why of the product and ensures development teams build the highest-value capabilities first. The Product Owner is the connective tissue between plant-floor operational reality, customer value, and software delivery. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of digital products: defining what gets built, why it matters, and how success is measured. You will work with information technology professionals, process technology experts, field operations, and commercial teams and directly with Midrex customers to validate that what we build actually solves their problems.

Midrex’s competitive advantage increasingly depends on software-enabled plant optimization and digital lifecycle services. The Product Owner ensures our digital solutions evolve from project-based deliverables to scalable, revenue-generating platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Translate Midrex’s External Digitalization strategy into actionable product roadmaps
  • Define product goals aligned to customer outcomes and recurring revenue growth
  • Support business case development and ROI tracking
  • Partner with Business Management (Global Solutions and Plant Sales Departments) to define pricing and other market development strategies
  • Own and continuously refine the product backlog
  • Prioritize features based on business value, customer impact, risk, and technical dependencies
  • Balance new feature development with platform scalability and technical debt
  • Maintain clear user stories with acceptance criteria and measurable outcomes
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Process Technology, Automation, and Operations teams
  • Translate plant-level operational needs into scalable digital product features
  • Participate in customer engagements to gather feedback and validate requirements
  • Ensure digital products integrate seamlessly with Midrex engineering platforms (e.g., COMOS, AVEVA, ACC)
  • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and backlog grooming
  • Accept completed work based on defined criteria
  • Ensure releases meet quality, performance, and cybersecurity standards
  • Define requirements for data pipelines, analytics models, and AI-enabled features
  • Partner with Data & Analytics teams to ensure governance and integrity
  • Translate operational KPIs (DRI plant performance, uptime, efficiency) into digital dashboards and insights
  • Define success metrics for product adoption and customer value
  • Track usage, revenue contribution, and customer satisfaction
  • Drive continuous improvement based on measurable outcomes
  • Participate in leadership of Midrex’s Product Management Center of Excellence (COE)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field
  • Or Bachelor’s in Business/Management with 4+ years of experience in a technical product role as a compensating factor
  • 4+ years of product management or product ownership experience, including at least 2 years managing commercial software products through full lifecycle (discovery to launch to iteration)

Skills

  • Required:
    • Proven ability to own and manage a product backlog in an Agile/Scrum environment, including writing high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria
    • Experience translating complex operational or engineering requirements into prioritized, deliverable digital capabilities, ideally in industrial, manufacturing, energy, or process industry contexts
    • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills across engineering, commercial, and executive audiences; comfortable presenting product strategy to C-level stakeholders
    • Strong analytical and financial acumen, able to build ROI models, track revenue attribution, and make data-driven prioritization decisions
    • Proficiency with Agile delivery tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent) and product documentation platforms (Confluence, Notion, or equivalent)
  • Preferred:
    • Direct experience with industrial digital platforms, IoT connectivity, SCADA/DCS integration, digital twins, simulation tools, predictive analytics, or remote asset monitoring
    • Familiarity with engineering systems and platforms relevant to Midrex's ecosystem: Siemens COMOS, AVEVA, Autodesk ACC/Vault, OSIsoft PI, SAP, or Dynamics 365
    • Exposure to AI/ML product development, defining model requirements, working with data science teams, and governing AI use cases in a regulated or IP-sensitive environment
    • Experience with B2B SaaS go-to-market motions including tiered pricing, customer onboarding, and recurring revenue model design
    • CSPO, SAFe PO/PM, or equivalent Agile product certification

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Product Development, Systems Engineering, Business (MBA), or Data Science (preferred)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe POPM, or equivalent Agile product certification (preferred)
