About the Role
The Product Owner drives product strategy and delivery for CompTIA's engineering portfolio, including the Optimizely commerce platform, SSO/identity services, and internal development tools. This role translates business needs into prioritized backlogs, aligns cross-functional stakeholders, and ensures engineering teams deliver maximum value.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the product backlog for Optimizely DXP (Omni), SSO/identity, and other engineering projects, ensuring items are clearly defined, prioritized, and ready for development.
- Collaborate with Business Systems, Revenue Operations, and business stakeholders to gather, validate, and refine requirements before they enter engineering sprints.
- Define acceptance criteria for user stories and ensure the engineering team has sufficient context to deliver quality solutions.
- Prioritize work across multiple concurrent projects (Optimizely commerce, SSO, data platform integrations, internal tools) based on business value, technical dependencies, and organizational strategy.
- Attend and contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews in partnership with the Scrum Master and engineering leads.
- Serve as a primary point of contact between engineering and business stakeholders for scope, timeline, and delivery questions.
- Coordinate with vendor partners to align external development work with internal priorities and architectural standards.
- Partner with QA to define test strategies and acceptance validation for features before release.
- Develop and communicate product roadmaps that align engineering capacity with business objectives across commerce, identity, certification, and data platform initiatives.
- Manage stakeholder expectations by providing transparent status updates, identifying risks early, and proposing trade-off options when scope or timeline conflicts arise.
- Work with the Director of Internal Systems Architecture to ensure product decisions align with enterprise architecture standards and long-term technical strategy.
Key Performance Indicators
- Backlog health: 90%+ of items in the next two sprints have defined acceptance criteria and are development-ready.
- Stakeholder satisfaction score of 4.0+ (out of 5) on quarterly survey measuring clarity, communication, and delivery alignment.
- Reduction in mid-sprint scope changes to fewer than 10% of committed story points per sprint.
Additional Expectations
- Employees are expected to model CompTIA's values and reflect them in how they work and collaborate.
- Participate in required and role relevant training to maintain skills, ensure compliance, and support ongoing professional development.
- May be required to travel based on role responsibilities and business needs.
