Product Metallurgist

Education

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s (4-year) degree in engineering or a related technical field. A degree in metallurgical/materials engineering is preferred.

Necessary Skills

• Experience with applied statistics and associated software tools.
• Experience with data collection, analysis, and SPC systems.

• A commitment to the ISO methodology of plan, do, check, act.
• The ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, and to represent Logan Aluminum to customers, suppliers, and other business associates.
• The ability to work with minimal supervision.

Position Accountabilities

• Work within the Logan Team Concept.
• Establish cooperative relationships with Associates, customers, suppliers, and internal operating units.
• Maintain responsibility for overall performance of assigned customer accounts.
• Facilitate investigation and resolution of customer claims.
• Monitor physical properties and other associated critical input and output variables for assigned customer accounts.
• Lead efforts to resolve defects impacting assigned customer performance.
• Provide routine analysis and reports regarding customer and process performance to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Plan and enter assigned customer trials.
• Support overall plant-wide effort for continuous improvement.
• Assist the organization in identifying further quality and process improvement opportunities.
• Develop understanding of final customer processes, and how Logan products interact with those processes.
• Support Logan physical test, metallurgical, and coating labs.

Essential Physical, Sensory, And Mental Requirements

• Sit 3, stand 3, and walk 2 hrs. daily.
• Stoop, climb, kneel, use ladders and stairs daily.
• Lift no more than 50 lbs. daily.
• Use computer & telephone daily.
• Time pressure is normal.
• Works on un-level, unstable, slippery surfaces.
• Good vision hearing & speaking necessary.
• Must read, write, measure, draw conclusions, create methods, conduct research, develop plans, direct others, evaluate others, and do difficult math.
• Works indoors, outdoors, at a desk, and control room daily.
• Chemicals, vibration, extreme hot and cold, dust, dirt, fumes, and noise are typical daily surroundings.
