Product Lifecycle Mechanical Engineer, Data Center Mechanical Products & Services
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll join a global team responsible for ownership and continuous improvement of data center liquid cooling infrastructure products within our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
You’ll work with product development teams to understand products during development and testing, maintaining engineering ownership throughout their operational life. This role serves as the global engineering resource for liquid cooling AWS infrastructure in data centers. Intermittent travel (~30%) is required, primarily domestic with some international travel possible. This position can be based in Herndon, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; or Columbus, OH.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong engineering judgment and recommendations despite uncertainty
- Review, update, and approve equipment submittals
- Work with global liquid cooling equipment suppliers and manufacturers
- Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., reliability, operations, design, compliance)
- Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographic zones
- Explain complex systems in clear and concise language
- Support Operations with failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operating procedure review for mechanical and electrical issues
- Listen to customer feedback to identify improvements for product reliability or availability
- Collaborate with suppliers to design product improvements and oversee root cause analysis
- Contribute to a global body of knowledge and drive continuous improvement at scale
Requirements
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas)
- Hands-on mechanical and manufacturing experience with liquid cooling products
- Experience leading cooling product design, understanding cooling principles, and knowledge of quality manufacturing practices
- Ability to comprehend detailed equipment specifications, piping systems, pumping systems, and air handler systems
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License
- Experience with building codes and regional regulations
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Pay
Base salary range: $116,800 – $160,000 USD annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and location. Final compensation includes additional sign-on payments and RSUs.
