Product Engineering Intern (Spring 2027)

About the role

Engineering interns in Product Engineering support achievement of module and group targets for quality and timing. They complete moderately complex tasks in a production and product engineering environment, applying existing experience and learning new and valuable skills. Interns work semi-independently under the guidance of one or more module leaders to support analysis of problems, development, validation, and implementation of solutions, and collect necessary data to confirm solution effectiveness.

Reports administratively to the Section Manager at Plant Spartanburg and operationally to the relevant Module Leader.

Responsibilities

• Supports current engineering tasks, quality assurance, design engineering, analysis and validation, process improvement initiatives, and ongoing workflows.
• Assists Module Leaders in achieving module and process chain targets (GWK, Breakdown, IQS, QFZ/QZS, Q-Index, PQM, gAMS).
• Supports design and release of components within modules through 3-D model analyses, prototype development and production, and testing and validation on fixtures and customer cars.
• Develops a network with the Center of Competence and plant process partners to support assigned activities.
• Supports development of solutions to highly complex or unusual technical problems requiring ingenuity and innovation.
• Prepares and presents data, results, and solutions in Module or management rounds.
• Understands and implements VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles, Standard Work, and Problem Solving concepts.
• Adheres to 6S and Safety Standards and Principles.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Major in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Fluent English language skills (oral and written).
• Conversational German language skills preferred.
• 1+ years of problem-solving and communication experience.
• 1+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in multiple product areas.
• 1+ years of knowledge of automotive technology/-ies preferred.
• 1+ years of experience presenting to teams on technical and project issues.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
• Enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
• Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
• Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
• Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
• Must attach a copy of unofficial transcript.
• Must complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
