About the role

Curtiss-Wright Electro-Mechanical Systems (EMS) division is seeking a Product Engineer to join the Steam & Air Solutions team in Summerville, SC. The role involves directing or performing the design and development of steam turbine products and components for both new and existing designs, ensuring compliance with industry and contractual requirements at the most efficient cost.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct studies and investigations to determine the feasibility of designs related to turbine applications.
  • Define product design requirements in accordance with contract requirements, including performance computation.
  • Analyze test results to evaluate performance, design qualities, and operating deficiencies.
  • Develop standard performance curves and calculation procedures to assist marketing in quoting products.
  • Coordinate with other engineering areas to ensure contractual requirements are met.
  • Conduct product improvement programs to minimize costs, improve performance, and promote standardization.
  • Investigate field problems and provide corrective action through component redesign, revised operating procedures, or maintenance practices.
  • Develop computer programs to support and analyze design concepts regarding performance and mechanical design.
  • Investigate manufacturing deviations and provide corrective action.
  • May supervise and direct subordinates, product design engineers, and/or technicians in component design and modification for steam turbines.
  • Independently perform assignments requiring thorough knowledge of thermodynamics, machine design, metallurgy, installation, operation, and application of steam turbines.
  • Travel to manufacturing suppliers to support, instruct, and manage the machining of critical components (5%–15% travel per year, depending on assigned projects).

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen due to DoD requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearances and approvals.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of experience in the steam turbine or related industry.
  • Experience creating UG drawings and 3-D models.
  • Experience managing projects and working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Oracle manufacturing systems/software.
  • Steam turbine manufacturing/design experience is an asset.

Pay

Salary range: $67,400–$97,400. Actual offer will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, position scope, market conditions, and business considerations.
