About the role

This internship offers hands-on engineering experience while contributing to active product development and manufacturing improvement projects. The role involves working both in an office/engineering environment and directly on the manufacturing floor.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of new products and improvements to existing products.
  • Create, review, and update engineering drawings for new and existing products.
  • Assist with developing product dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, and other technical specifications.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of product specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Assist with prototype development, testing, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to determine whether product designs can be manufactured safely, consistently, and efficiently.
  • Assist engineers with the design, planning, and budgeting of engineering projects.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input based on manufacturing observations and collected data.
  • Assist with researching materials, components, manufacturing methods, and industry standards as required for product development projects.
  • Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, preferably using SolidWorks.
  • Work directly with manufacturing personnel to understand current production methods and challenges.
  • Provide engineering support for day-to-day manufacturing and production issues.
  • Use data and observations to help distinguish between equipment, material, tooling, operator, and process-related issues.
  • Assist with reviewing and developing product cost information.
  • Gather information related to raw materials, labor, machine time, production rates, scrap, packaging, and other manufacturing costs.
  • Perform time studies or process observations when needed to support costing activities.
  • Assist with comparing estimated product costs to actual manufacturing conditions.
  • Organize and analyze production and costing data using Microsoft Excel or similar tools.
  • Help identify opportunities to reduce product cost through material, process, tooling, or productivity improvements.
  • Support engineering and operations with data collection needed for project justification and budgeting.

Requirements

  • Must have completed at least two years toward a college degree from a recognized accredited college or university.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Engineering Technology
    • Mechanical Engineering Technology
    • Manufacturing Engineering Technology
    • Industrial Technology
    • Or another related engineering or technical field.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to spend time on the manufacturing floor and interact directly with production employees.
  • Experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling and engineering drawings preferred.
