Product Development Engineer - Upper Body Structures
About the role
The Product Development Engineer - Upper Body Structures is responsible for designing, developing, releasing, and validating parts with a focus on lightweight materials and designs. This professional will lead design engineering activities from pre-program through launch, including understanding structural design to meet vehicle attributes, leading purchasing and cost estimating, and interfacing with engineers of surrounding components and systems.
Responsibilities
- Understand structural design to meet vehicle attributes including FMVSS, NVH, and Safety
- Lead Purchasing, Finance, and Cost Estimating in supplier selection to achieve program targets
- Develop component designs that meet customer requirements and Vehicle Operations manufacturing requirements
- Interface with engineers of surrounding components and systems (seats, electrical, etc)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Master’s degree preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- 2 years of experience as structures D&R Engineer or relevant coursework for new graduates
- Working knowledge of Catia V5/V6 and/or 3DX CAD is preferred
- Recent product development experience with Ford body commodities a plus
Preferred Requirements
- Knowledge of Ford software systems: AIMS, WERS, FEDE, and Integrator
- Experience applying DMAIC and DFSS principles
- Reviewing and signing-off on component drawings and gaging practices
- Applying 8D, fishbone, and DOE problem-solving methodology
- Creating Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, DFMEA & SCCAFs
- Reviewing CAE models and CAD drawings
- Leading design reviews based on Failure Mode Avoidance
- Maintaining DVP&R and signing-off on DV tests – including FMVSS requirements
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)
- Executing threaded fastener joint designs and tests

Pay
This position is a salary grade 5 to 8 and ranges from $65,100 - $166,200. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
Schedule
The position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
