Product Development Engineer/Lab Technician

This opportunity in Apex, NC, within our Pool segment, involves developing and documenting test procedures, leading lab testing for new product types and major improvements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management, operations, marketing, sales, and field testing.
Responsibilities
- Source equipment and materials to create and build a physical environment for testing new Pool division products.
- Represent the lab in technical discussions and lead testing on new engineering projects.
- Drive efficiency improvements and cost-effectiveness in lab operations.
- Research, source, and train on new lab testing equipment; stay updated on technological advancements and regulatory changes.
- Lead and mentor a team of technicians.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Develop and implement advanced testing methodologies.
- Articulate testing data and build comprehensive reports.
- Build automated test stands from scratch (designing, assembling, and operating).
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; preferred: 2-year degree in engineering technology or programming.
- Python Programming or PLC programming experience.
- CAD or SolidWorks experience highly desired.
- 8+ years of experience building automated test stands from scratch.
- Expertise in electronic testing, troubleshooting, and extracting data from PLCs and sensors.
- Proven ability to drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving skills in a dynamic product development environment.
- Proven project management skills for complex testing projects.
- Strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
Physical Requirements
This role frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, speaking, and hearing, with occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 40 pounds.
Schedule
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
Pay
The hourly pay for this role is $33.00+/hour, depending on experience. Opportunity for a rate increase after proficiency in certain skills and completion of training.
