Job Summary

Paragon 28, a Zimmer Biomet company, is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer I to join our dynamic R&D team. This role supports the design and development of medical devices with increasing levels of autonomy.

About the Role

As a Product Development Engineer I, you will be part of a project team with direct supervision, participating in meaningful projects that focus on design and development of medical devices. This is a hybrid role based out of Englewood, Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Produce deliverables in support of product development efforts from ideation to commercialization.
  • Research and evaluate competitive products for performance characteristics.
  • Conceptualize new design ideas with some understanding of the inadequacy of existing designs.
  • Perform parametric modeling and detail design of P28 implant and instrument development.
  • Create design control documentation for P28 design history files and technical files.
  • Develop and assist in the testing protocols for new and existing products.
  • Compile and comprehend test results and implement/recommend appropriate design changes.
  • Participate in project phase gate design reviews.
  • Interface with third-party suppliers, contractors, testing houses, etc.
  • Absorb and evaluate new suppliers for inclusion in the P28 approved supplier list.
  • Assist the P28 Quality and Supply Chain departments in developing inspection plans.
  • Observe surgeries (live, cadaver, or video) on lower extremity pathology and formulate physician comments/ideas into meaningful design solutions.
  • Document all notes.
  • Support sales and other departments via phone and live product training.
  • Aid in patent application preparation.
  • Assist with other development projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related engineering discipline with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Prior experience in medical device development helpful.
  • Prior experience in taking medical device or similar product from ideation to commercialization helpful.
  • Understanding of medical device industry regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Experience with CAD. SolidWorks preferred.
  • High proficiency in MS Office.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills with ability to convey information and respond to questions from groups of peers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 2-4 years of professional experience in medical device development.
  • Experience in taking medical device or similar product from ideation to commercialization.
  • Understanding of medical device industry regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with CAD, particularly SolidWorks.
  • High proficiency in MS Office.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Pay

$80,000 - $105,000 USD annually, depending on skills and experience.

This is a hybrid role based out of Englewood, Colorado.
