About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to develop exciting new products for the roof window, skylight, and sun tunnel markets, and to improve existing products related to market desires, quality, delivery, and cost. The Product Developer provides technical and engineering support services, including new product development, product follow-up, and production monitoring. This role involves significant participation in design activities such as market research, product scoping, concept ideation, and design. Considerations include user needs, usability, safety, visual appeal, material selection, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Collaborate with internal teams and market partners to clarify design requirements and align project scope and planning.
  • Conduct engineering analyses such as tolerance stack-ups, material selection, stress calculations, and basic FEA.
  • Support prototyping activities, including CAD and assembly of test units to create display concepts or working models.
  • Participate in product testing, validation, and documentation of results.
  • Assist in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities for existing products.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and production-ready.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with sales, marketing, procurement, quality, designers, model makers, and testing teams.
  • Produce reports and present ideas to colleagues at various stages of the design process.
  • Work within budgets and deadlines to meet project goals.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by local management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Applied experience in product development is preferred.
  • Understanding of current and potential technologies and production processes of materials (such as wood, glass, metals, and plastics).
  • Creative with an eye for form, fit, and function.
  • Technical, practical, and scientific knowledge and ability.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to explain ideas to people with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Proficiency in drawings, 3D models, and computer designs to express creative ideas.
  • Strong IT skills and good planning and organizational abilities.
  • Listening and questioning skills for discussing design briefs and understanding feedback.
  • Independent self-starter capable of functioning in a team environment.
  • Interest in how people choose and use products, as well as how things look and work.
  • Enjoyment of problem-solving and a positive, professional appearance.
  • Compliance with all rules of conduct, safety regulations, and company policies.

Pay

Starting monthly salary: $7,000 - $9,200. Compensation is based on the skills and experience of the individual.
