About the role

We are seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our team in San Antonio, TX. This role reports to the V.P. of Engineering and focuses on designing and improving mechanical and pneumatic products for automatic tire inflation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and create new product opportunities and designs.
  • Research, plan, and design mechanical and pneumatic products and systems for automatic tire inflation systems.
  • Develop and assist in the creation of test procedures for new products, including design concept reports, test documentation, drawings, and applicable standards.
  • Analyze current products compared to competitive systems and provide comparative information to support marketing efforts.
  • Compare current product design to best practices to improve future product performance.
  • Assist Operations to streamline and improve production capacity.
  • Assist in the design of new production and testing equipment, including robotics, automation, and modern manufacturing processes.
  • Improve maintenance procedures and identify and source production equipment and parts.
  • Assist the Quality Department with test procedures, ECR/ECNs, and the maintenance of applicable part and product drawings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • At least 3-5 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D and 2D, with working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with the APQP process.
  • Firm grasp of engineering concepts and experience designing mechanical systems/products.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles such as mechanics of materials, pneumatics, pressure sensors, and solenoids. Electrical system experience is a plus.
  • Experience with validation testing, including mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and climatic environments at both system and vehicle levels.
  • Competence in using personal computer software such as word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Strong technical documentation, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or lead a team to complete projects within required timeframes.
  • Experience in the commercial vehicle or RV market is a plus.
  • Must be self-motivated, a great team worker, and able to communicate effectively and clearly.
  • Position is on-site at our San Antonio Headquarters and requires minimal travel.
  • Due to ITAR and EAR requirements, all candidates must be presently classified as a “US Person” (U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident/green card holder).
