About the role

Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all major Tier 1 OEMs globally. We are seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our team in Nashua, NH.

As a Product Development Engineer, you will be one of the mechanical designers for our next-generation high-speed connector products, working within a larger team under the direction of a Senior Engineer. This role ensures the product roadmap aligns with current and future industry needs while maintaining Amphenol’s status as the industry leader in technology. The position involves significant interaction with internal manufacturing sites, external vendors, and other engineering disciplines. Responsibilities span from R&D and securing patents to preparing products for high-volume manufacturing and maximizing profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Understand evolving industry needs and resultant product requirements.
  • Work directly with the Signal Integrity (EE) team to ensure mechanical design supports electrical performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Integrity team to ensure high reliability and compliance with industry and internal specifications.
  • Work with NPI and Machine Design (automation) teams to ensure high-volume, efficient, and high-quality production.
  • Conduct and understand tolerance loop analyses.
  • Aid in material selection (metals, plastics, surface coatings, etc.).
  • Help develop initial product specifications and technical documentation.
  • Interface directly with customers during multiple project phases and support the sales process.
  • Work with internal and external suppliers for DFM, prototyping, and production tooling design and qualifications, including occasional travel to global manufacturing sites.
  • Provide technical assistance to product marketing and sales teams.
  • Participate in quality investigations and improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in fixture/tooling design and create/manage test plans (mechanical and electrical).
  • Actively participate in cost-reduction projects (e.g., alternative materials, manufacturing efficiency improvements).

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with solid modeling/CAE/CAD tools (Pro/E, Solidworks, etc.).
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Understanding of GD&T; experience with FEA tools.
  • Knowledge of copper alloys and high-performance engineering plastics.
  • Knowledge of networking/datacenter/server system architectures.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies (stamping, molding, plating) is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering.
  • Ability to travel ~10% domestically and internationally.
