About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Product Development Director to support the Property and Casualty (P&C) Auto product Design, Build and Modernization area. Join the Modernization Team and lead a high-performing team charged with building and designing product across the country on a new technology stack. This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new products, oversee and manage the launch and maturation of new products into target strategic markets.
  • Act as a cross-functional expert, providing expertise and support for product line initiatives related to product development, compliance, operational and process improvements, claims management, vendor management, product documentation, fulfillment, and/or system releases.
  • Lead development and launch of new innovative product offerings as well as auxiliary/enhanced features/services for existing products.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of business and underwriting performance for products in scope (e.g., trends, results).
  • Perform post-launch monitoring, maintenance, and underwriting of 'new in market' products based on product performance, member needs, and competitive changes in the market, including product rules, rates, and forms.
  • Develop recommendations to launch new products and evaluate the decision to buy, build, or ally for individual product(s).
  • Generate creative product and coverage solutions for member needs to ensure a dynamic product development pipeline exists.
  • Conduct complex analysis of internal and external data and member information to support formulation of product strategy and enhance competitive intelligence.
  • Develop and communicate the new product value proposition for individual products.
  • Ensure sales support is delivered to all distribution channels (e.g., web, mobile, contact center) so that the new product is properly positioned to members.
  • Lead the analysis and evaluation of new product performance metrics to make changes to offerings, if necessary, prior to full launch.
  • Coordinate with relevant control partners (to include Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings are designed and implemented in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or Statistics; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 8 years of relevant experience in Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, Operations, Financial Services, or relevant military experience.
  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying, and supporting product and/or integrated suite of products.
  • Experience working through agile product development process, managing multiple products simultaneously.
  • Knowledge and application of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).
  • Creative problem solver with hands-on experience in problem framing, qualitative & quantitative research, running product experiments, hypothesis testing, and prototyping to launch products at the intersection of Human, Technology, and Business dimensions.
  • Ability to navigate through ambiguous contexts with confidence.
  • Ability to break large complex initiatives into smaller manageable features and capabilities and deliver them early and often.

Skills

  • Experience operating within complex enterprise P&C product delivery environments across Product, Pricing, Technology, Data, Compliance, and Operations.
  • Familiarity with core insurance platforms such as Guidewire and how product design translates into system configuration.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end pricing, rating, and underwriting lifecycle and how decisions impact financial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to translate between business strategy and technical execution across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience contributing to or leading large-scale product or platform transformation efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive alignment in highly matrixed organizations without direct authority.
  • Ability to step into in-flight initiatives, build context quickly, and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Balanced product mindset with strong execution discipline across both strategy and delivery.
  • Prior experience within large, regulated financial services or insurance organizations.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $127,310 - $243,340. Compensation is based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
