Role
We’re looking for a Product Designer to join our Payments team—someone who’s passionate about designing seamless, trustworthy money experiences for live commerce at massive scale. In this role, you’ll shape the checkout, payout, wallet, and incentive experiences that power every dollar moving through Whatnot, from the moment a buyer wins or buys in a live show to the moment a seller understands, receives, and manages their earnings. You’ll partner closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and finance, compliance, and risk partners to build experiences that balance speed, trust, and operational correctness.
What You’ll Do
- Design payment and value experiences across checkout, payouts, wallet, refunds, credits, coupons, gift cards, and emerging balance products on web and mobile.
- Translate payment infrastructure, compliance, tax, and financial integrity requirements into intuitive product experiences.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and polished product experiences for ambiguous, high-stakes money movement problems.
- Help unify fragmented payment experiences across live, marketplace, tips, offers, and other purchase surfaces.
- Use data, research, and experimentation to improve conversion, reduce payment friction, and increase buyer and seller confidence.
- Design for live shopping constraints, where speed, clarity, and trust matter across auctions, flash sales, subscriptions, and other high-throughput moments.
You
- People who do well at Whatnot tend to be comfortable figuring things out as they go, biased toward action, and genuinely curious about what they're building.
- You have 5+ years of experience in Product Design with a strong portfolio of shipped work.
- You have strong interaction and systems thinking—you can untangle complex flows and design for edge cases.
- You have expertise in design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Protopie, Framer, etc.).
- You have a deep understanding of user experience design principles and methodologies, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.
- You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- You have proven experience designing zero-to-one products or new platforms, demonstrating your ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and define new product spaces.
- You have experience in e-commerce, marketplace platforms, or supply chain management is a plus.
