Position SummaryThe Product Design Engineer owns the mechanical design and technical definition of assigned products from concept through validation, technical release, and production implementation.This includes developing complete technical design packages consisting of 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, tolerances, BOMs, specifications, validation requirements, and manufacturing criteria. What You Will OwnThe Product Design Engineer is accountable for the technical accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and production readiness of assigned product designs. This includes ensuring that:The design meets defined product and technical requirements.CAD drawings, technical drawings, BOMs, tolerances, specifications, and revisions are accurate and aligned.Designs are appropriately analyzed, prototyped, tested, and validated before release.Suppliers and internal teams have clear technical information needed to manufacture the product.Engineering changes are properly controlled and communicated through implementation. Key Job Responsibilities Product Design & EngineeringOwn the mechanical design and technical definition of assigned products from concept through production release.Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, mechanisms, mounting systems, and mechanical product solutions.Create complete technical design packages including drawings, tolerances, BOMs, specifications,and manufacturing requirements.Perform tolerance-stack analysis and apply GD&T where appropriate.Perform basic mechanical and structural calculations including load evaluation, component sizing,fastener selection, and material assessment.Evaluate materials, hardware, manufacturing processes, cost, reliability, and design alternatives.Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles throughout development. Prototyping, Testing & ValidationConvert engineering concepts into proof-of-concept and production-intent prototypes.Create CNC, routing, machining, or fabrication cut files when required.Define test requirements and acceptance criteria.Evaluate prototypes for fit, function, structural performance, durability, assembly, and manufacturability.Analyze failures and implement corrective design changes.Support certification testing, mockups, field evaluations, and other validation activities. Production Implementation & Engineering ReleaseDefine manufacturing methods, tooling requirements, fixtures, quality-critical dimensions, and acceptance criteria required for repeatable production.Own technical product release and revision control, including ECO/ECN-style engineering changes.Ensure released CAD models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, and manufacturing documentation remain aligned.Support pilot production, launches, and resolution of manufacturing or product-performance issues. Supplier & Cross-Functional SupportWork directly with Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, suppliers, and other internal team to resolve technical issues and support product execution.Provide extruders, machine shops, fabricators, and component suppliers with clear drawings,specifications, tolerances, and technical requirements.Review supplier samples and manufacturability feedback and make appropriate engineering decisions.Provide clear technical direction and close the loop on issues without unnecessary escalation. Your Decision ScopeWithin approved product requirements, you will independently make routine technical decisions about mechanical design, tolerances, materials, hardware, manufacturing methods, DFM/DFA improvements, prototypes, testing requirements, and supplier technical issues.You will escalate decisions that materially affect product architecture, customer requirements, certification strategy, major cost, aesthetics, scope, or launch timing. When escalation is needed, bring options, a recommendation, and the technical reasoning behind it.Who You Will Work WithYou will work closely with the Director of Product Development & Engineering, the Product Development & Manufacturing Specialist, Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, external engineers, testing laboratories, certification partners, and manufacturing suppliers. What Success Looks LikeIndependently own assigned engineering projects from requirements through technical release.Produce complete and accurate manufacturing-ready technical packages.Validate designs through calculations, prototypes, testing, and corrective action.Successfully transition assigned products into repeatable production.Independently manage routine supplier and cross-functional technical issues.Maintain reliable engineering revision and change control.Significantly reduce the amount of routine detailed engineering, troubleshooting, and technical follow-up requiring direct involvement from the Director of Product Development & Engineering. RequirementsStrong proficiency with Fusion, AutoCAD or comparable 3D CAD software.Experience producing manufacturing-ready 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.Practical knowledge of GD&T and tolerance-stack analysis.Ability to perform basic mechanical and structural calculations, load evaluations, fastener selection, and material assessments.Experience with CNC machining, extrusion, fabrication, sheet metal, fastening, and assembly processes.Experience interacting directly with manufacturing suppliers and technical vendors. Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline strongly preferred; equivalent relevant engineering experience may be considered.3+ years of mechanical design, product engineering, or product-development experience preferred.Experience with architectural products, modular systems, commercial furniture, industrial products,machine design, automation equipment, or similar manufactured products is a plus. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Requires regular interaction with prototype and manufacturing environments in addition to computer-based engineering work.Must be comfortable inspecting, assembling, troubleshooting, and evaluating physical prototypes.May require use of hand tools, measurement equipment, prototype equipment, and manufacturing machinery following appropriate training and safety procedures.Must be able to safely work within manufacturing, supplier, installation, and testing environments.Travel approximately 15% for supplier visits, testing, installations, certification activities, trade shows,and related product-development needs.Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs. Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
