Product Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop schematic designs and perform component selection for new products, including low-voltage and high-voltage Battery Management Systems (BMS), Wi-Fi dongle module and meter collar.
  • Design PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
  • Create and maintain PCBA documentation, CADs and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Manage the product, electrical system, and architecture.
  • Lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities to ensure system reliability and safety.
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze battery performance data to support product development and optimization.
  • Support troubleshooting and evaluation of battery system performance.
  • Collaborate with the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) team to introduce new products into manufacturing.
  • Support manufacturing readiness and production ramp-up activities.
  • Support Design Validation (DV), Engineering Validation (EV), and Production Validation (PV) testing for new product development.
  • Review test data and assist with design improvements.
  • Design and build custom test fixtures, wiring harnesses, and testing setups for battery packs and BMS evaluation.
  • Support prototype builds and laboratory testing.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with schematic design and electronic component selection.
  • Experience with PCB design software such as Altium Designer.
  • Knowledge of PCBA development and BOM management.
  • Understanding of battery systems and BMS architecture.
  • Prior experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) or EV battery systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, DFM, and NPI processes.
  • Experience building test fixtures and wiring harnesses for electrical testing.
  • Strong data analysis and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements

  • This position may require the ability to perform tasks that involve standing, walking, lifting 50+ lbs, bending, stooping, computer work, working with live electricity, and other physical activities.
