Responsibilities
- Provide legal review and analysis on account restrictions, closures, and general account status, specifically considering consumer protection and fraud/scam issues. Focus on KYC/KYB/CIP requirements and fraud and security obligations.
- Guide product, customer support, sales, account management, and other teams on consumer protection and business issues such as disputes, complaints, account takeovers/identity theft, and various consumer privacy regimes.
- Advises on the construction and management of AI products, including AI partner integrations, chatbots, and agentic AI tools.
- Builds trusted relationships with business partners, stays informed on key product developments, and provides legal advice related to consumer protection issues, particularly related to disputes.
- Drafts and/or reviews policies, processes, and procedures related to consumer protection issues, particularly as it relates to disputes.
- Drafts and reviews customer communications, particularly as it relates to dispute issues.
- Collaborates closely with other support teams (tax, compliance, accounting, outside counsel) to provide seamless support to business partners.
- Stimulates creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments and customer experiences.
Qualifications
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in at least one state bar required.
- Significant experience dealing with consumer protection issues.
- Expertise in financial services, consumer protection, and business laws (KYC/CIP, Regulation Z, Regulation E, UDAAP, UDAP).
- Familiarity with consumer and business privacy regimes.
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks as applicable to technology products.
- Excellent drafting skills.
