Product Counsel
About the role
Join our expanding team as we actively contribute to Asana's mission. Specifically, we’re looking for a detail-oriented, business-minded Product Counsel to join our Legal team in our San Francisco office.
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with Asana’s product and engineering teams on product and feature development and releases, including advising on general compliance issues.
- Partner directly with Product Marketing and product teams on go-to-market plans and materials.
- Conduct comprehensive legal reviews of new products, features, and UI/UX flows, particularly around collaboration tools, automated workflows, and enterprise-grade administration features.
- Focus on outcomes by gaining a deep understanding of one or more product areas, R&D processes, and customer-facing product programs to become a trusted cross-functional partner.
Requirements
- Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
- Holds a JD from an accredited law school and is U.S.-qualified (California bar membership or California registered in-house counsel preferred).
- Bridges the gap between legal and business perspectives, bringing 5+ years of combined experience working in-house at a SaaS company as product counsel and/or at a law firm in technology transactions or counseling high-growth SaaS companies on product, intellectual property, and/or strategic partnerships.
- Shows strong collaboration skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with lawyers and non-lawyers across the company.
- Acts as a creative problem solver comfortable with assessing risks and making clear decisions.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: artificial intelligence, consumer protection, payments, productivity software, international compliance, or technical integrations/iPaaS.
- Business and customer-oriented with experience bringing diverse stakeholders to agreement.
- Possesses excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to assess and clearly communicate risks and tradeoffs to business partners in plain language.
Qualifications

Pay
The estimated base salary range for this role is between $202,000 - $229,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process.
Schedule
This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner.
