News24, recently rebranded from Sky News Australia and owned by News Corp Australia, is expanding its world-leading news and commentary digital strategy. As one of the top 10 most viewed English-language news channels globally on YouTube, this role offers a unique opportunity to join an established news brand with a global reach, combining the agility and ambition of a startup. This is a 2-year contract with the possibility of extension, based in Dallas, Texas.
About the role
As a News24 US Producer, you will report to the Executive Producer in the USA and drive the delivery of editorial content for productions across News24's digital platforms. The role demands strong news judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced editorial environment. You will work closely with opinion hosts, editorial teams, and production staff to create compelling, agenda-setting content.
Responsibilities
- Help drive a small team to produce a unique program featuring a wide variety of topical news, politics, and current affairs stories.
- Collaborate with opinion hosts to create high-impact shows that drive ratings and set the news agenda.
- Learn from Executive Producers with the potential to step into their role when required.
- Compile rundowns and produce live shows from the control room, coordinating with pilots, technical directors, hosts, reporters, and guests.
- Book guests and studios, manage talent in the newsroom, and identify fresh voices for programs.
- Use editing software (Frame Light X) to cut grabs, overlay footage, and enhance program depth.
- Design attractive graphics to complement host arguments and storytelling.
- Ensure content meets News24’s quality control standards and complies with company policies, broadcasting codes, and legal requirements.
- Write eye-catching, accurate headline straps and suggest sharp questions for hosts and panelists.
Requirements
- Solid newsroom experience and proficiency in software used to produce TV programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with politicians, CEOs, contributors, and colleagues.
- Strong knowledge of global politics and current affairs, including awareness of international news events.
- Familiarity with Frame Light X (editing software) and ENPS (rundown system) is ideal; training will be provided.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Willingness to learn, adapt to new working practices, and contribute to new programs.
- Ability to work independently and handle assignments outside routine tasks.
- Previous experience in TV or radio broadcasting is required.
- Deep understanding of digital platforms and modern publishing strategies.
- In-office work is mandatory; working hours may vary based on show demands.
- Healthy knowledge of News24 products and an understanding of broadcasting codes and relevant laws (legal training provided).
