Responsibilities
- Maintains product levels and quality control in produce department.
- Ensures fresh fruits and vegetables are displayed according to company standards and all regulatory food safety practices.
- Promotes customer service and sales building practices.
- Maintains full stock conditions on produce display racks, tables, and shelves.
- Cleans, assembles, and prepares equipment for operation, and examines to check working order under supervision.
- Operates pallet jack to unload product from warehouse trucks and reloads trucks with return items.
- Ensures dated product is stocked, rotated, or discarded properly if unsold.
- Inspects product for quality and maintains quality control and food safety standards.
- Collects empty cardboard boxes and other trash and places into bailer.
- Assists fellow partners and customers by responding to price check questions and exchanging and/or locating product.
- Promotes product sales through use of suggestive selling initiatives.
- Provides friendly and customer service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, and responding to customer complaints.
- Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.
Requirements
- Minimum of 16 years of age required.
- Must be 18 years of age to operate and clean motorized equipment.
- Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
- Food Handler certification required.
- Typically involves on-the-job training.
Qualifications
- Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to focus.
- Continuously required to stand or walk.
- Continuously required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling.
- Continuously required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 40 lbs.
- Continuously required to bend, kneel or squat.
- Frequently required to talk and hear.
- Occasionally required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 75 lbs.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop or crawl.
- Occasionally exposed to extreme cold conditions (non-weather).
- Occasionally exposed to wet, slippery or damp conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to cleaning agents.
- Quiet to moderate noise level.
Skills
- Ability to operate manual or electric pallet jack.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain department equipment under supervision.
- Ability to handle objects carefully to avoid damage to items, people, vehicles, and property.
- Ability to safely work with sharp objects such as knives, box cutters, etc.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work well with fellow partners and promote a team environment.
- Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes using a variety of educational resources.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
- Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
- Uses sharp tools for opening boxes.
- Cuts and trims product to ensure high quality presentation and appearance under supervision.
