About the Role

Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Produce department. Support the day-to-day operations, achieve sales and profit goals, and maintain quality assurance standards. Responsibilities

  • Create outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service and maintain a safe, clean, and fresh environment.
  • Establish and monitor performance goals for the department, empowering associates to meet or exceed targets through collaboration and teamwork.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation.
  • Train and develop associates on job performance, including inventory, stocking, CAO, Key Retailing, and other aspects.
  • Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions and recommending products.
  • Offer product samples and inform customers of produce specials.
  • Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, taking appropriate action with items that do not meet standards.
  • Utilize Fresh Insights to ensure proper sell-through and shrink reduction.
  • Recommend produce items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Develop and implement a department business plan to achieve desired results.
  • Implement the merchandising promotional plan for the department and keep associates informed of present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department and maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions.
  • Ensure price integrity, including shelf tags and promotional signs, and assist in the inventory process.
  • Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and ensure temperature logs are kept up to date.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repair needs.
  • Report all safety risks, issues, customer or employee accidents, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, safety and food safety regulations, and company guidelines.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates and communicate company, department, and job-specific information.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Effective communication skills and knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Current food handlers permit once employed.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work in refrigerated areas for hours at a time and regularly lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Management experience preferred.
  • Produce experience desired.
