About the Role
This role leads the day-to-day activities of department operations in a retail store in the absence of the department manager or as directed. You will ensure associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, and operations meet company standards and key performance indicators.
Responsibilities
- Order and maintain inventory, using inventory control procedures including proper markdowns to minimize loss and ensure product freshness and quality.
- Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count, weight, and condition; ensure proper storage.
- Manage a team to complete stocking, production, and additional tasks, ensuring product quality, accuracy, and date-sensitive rotation. Handle spoiled/damaged products per guidelines.
- Maintain familiarity with all department and store products, including ad items, special prices, and sales/rewards programs.
- Communicate and execute the weekly and period Flight Plan to company expectations and timelines.
- Use required tools and software to manage scheduling, labor control, overtime, and payroll expense according to forecasted guidelines.
- Support the department manager in staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates.
- Assist in developing and monitoring department goals, forecasts, and key performance indicators.
- Attend and participate in daily huddles, manager meetings, and district/company-level meetings (via phone, online, or in person).
- Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department using structure-of-the-day guidelines and "Prime Time" standards.
- Develop and implement plans to meet company goals and key performance indicators.
- Follow all PPE, safety, food safety, and cleaning expectations, as well as guest experience guidelines.
- May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).
- 0-2 years of retail experience preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication and bookkeeping skills.
- Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands-on environment.
- Good strategic planning and business acumen skills.
- Knowledge of retail store operations and retail management systems.
- Suggestive selling and product knowledge preferred.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable (depending on location).
Physical Requirements
- May be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must stand and walk for extended periods; may bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
- Works in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures and is exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Noise level is usually low to moderate.
- Travel requirements vary by assignment.
