As a Produce Department Manager, you will oversee daily produce operations, ensure high standards for freshness and presentation, and drive sales through strong merchandising and inventory control. This role offers a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment where your leadership directly impacts customer trust and department performance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Produce Department with a focus on freshness, quality, and customer service
- Deliver knowledgeable, friendly service and ensure associates demonstrate strong product knowledge
- Execute corporate merchandising programs, planograms, seasonal sets, and promotional displays
- Maintain full, fresh, clean, and visually appealing produce displays at all times
- Manage product rotation, remove damaged or unsellable items, and maintain freshness standards
- Order, receive, inspect, and store product following food safety and rotation guidelines
- Manage shrink through inventory controls, root‑cause identification, and waste‑reduction strategies
- Build and manage labor schedules aligned with business needs
- Train, coach, and develop produce associates while maintaining a positive team environment
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, safety, and company operational standards
Qualifications
- Strong customer‑service mindset with attention to freshness and detail
- Effective leadership, communication, and coaching skills
- Strong organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to lead in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment
- Produce merchandising and freshness execution
- Inventory management, ordering, and shrink control
- Labor planning, scheduling, and associate supervision
- Food safety, sanitation, and compliance execution
- Knowledge of produce handling, rotation, and freshness standards
- Knowledge of retail merchandising and promotional execution
- Knowledge of store systems and inventory tools
- Ability to review sales, shrink, and inventory data to drive results
- Ability to train and develop associates
- Ability to lift, move, and stack product and work in coolers and refrigerated environments
- Flexible availability including weekends and holidays
- Reliable attendance
